RTV421 Advanced Dramatic Production: COURSE DESCRIPTION
RTV421 Advanced Dramatic Production is designed to expand the students’ creative single-camera visual storytelling skills. Students will produce, direct and crew single-camera, film-style narrative productions. Students will also deconstruct existing works with the goal of gaining a greater understanding of how those works came to be. Students will analyze various forms and production practices, applying class concepts to assigned narrative productions. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to create advanced-level single-camera productions. It is assumed that the student already possesses an understanding of equipment operation and production practices.

PROJECTS

  • Continuity.  A short (:90 or less) project accomplishing a smooth progression of action.  Storyboards are required.  Production audio and/or title cards are not allowed.
  • Scene Re-creation.  Students will re-create (shot-for-shot) a scene from an established production.
  • Character Study.  Students will select a single person for a 0:90-3:00 biography video.
  • Weekend Project.  Just what it sounds like – a project done over the course of a weekend.  Think of the 48 Hour Film Project with a little extra time, and in competition with other Cincy area schools.
  • Creative Scene.  Students will create their own interpretation of a standard, open-ended script.
  • Final Scene.  Student choice of subject.  Resulting edit should be no shorter than two minutes or longer than five minutes in length.  Script and storyboards are required.
