Sun Sets and Night Hikes in Punta Marenco

Every evening we would all gather around the lodge before dinner and watch the sun go down. These times lent a hand to some of the closest group bonding of the entire trip. Bringing together everyone from those who worked at the lodge to the strangers in the other cabins, these sunsets were absolutely spiritual!

The sunset in Central America happens in the blink of an eye! This specific sequence took just 5 min. before the entire sun was tucked away beneath the horizon! Absolutely Astonishing!

Night Hikes at Punta Marenco
beginning of night hike
The Last two nights in Punta Marenco we ventured into the rainforest, with nothing more than our head lamps! The purpose of these adventures was to understand the unique differences between day and night life!

The thing is, the pictures just don't do the real sites justice! So... you will just have to go see for yourself!

Before the night hike began we checked out the leaf cutter ant colony, since they are most active at night, and there was an entire army of them. According to Dr. Dahlam these ants can travel up to a football field's length away to find the right leaves. Which, come to find out, the ants don't eat it, but rater regurgitate the foliage for the larva!

As for the spider and frogs, these were all found in the same streams we originally walked for our day hike! Such a great experience!
