CLOUD FOREST

On the way up the mountain to the cloud forest, the climate change is the first thing you notice. The temperature is an average of 55۫۫۫F. Because of the high elevation, there is a thick fog that constantly lingers on the mountain top.

The Lodge is made up of several tiny cabins and a Restaurant where the visitors can eat, hang out playing pool, or drink some coffee or hot chocolate sitting by the fire.

We arrived to the cloud forest pretty late in the day. After getting settled in, some people went on their own little hike or just hung out waiting for dinner at the restaurant. The hike time in the evening is very limited because once the sun goes down it is pitch black so you better have a flash light.

After dinner, we hung out for a little while longer and called it a night around 10p.m. The next morning was our adventure to see the great Quetzals.

The cabins were pretty simple for the most part. They were not heated, but we were supplied with plenty of blankets. There were about 4 beds to each cabin and a awesome shower... if you wanted to attempt getting electrocuted.

We woke up pretty early to see this beautiful bird called the Quetzal. We had to get up early because that is when it is the best time to find them. We were told that it would take about 30 minutes to find it but it really only took 5 minutes until we spotted it. Our tour guide brought a telescope so we could get a better look at it. The name Quetzal means "large brilliant tail feather" which suits the it perfectly.

After our tour, we returned back to the restaurant to heat Costa Rican breakfast, eggs, toast, rice and beans! We had a little free time until we had to leave so some of us went on our own little hike and seen the most amazing waterfall ever!!!
