The Big Tree is a massive giant that stands alone in the rainforest near Punta Marenco.  Said to be around 2000 years old, the top of the tree extends high in to the sky.  The vines on the tree are so large that they could pass as a smaller tree trunk.  The life that a tree of this size must support is amazing.  The contribution to the forest is essential.  The canopy of this old giant is home to monkeys, an array of birds, some insects and other creatures make a home there.  The trunk it self may be home to insects and small animals, even plants that may climb up its trunk in its never ending quest for sunlight.  The base of the tree still holds more life.  For the most part insects can live at the base of the tree along with the assortment of small creatures, such as spiders and lizards.  But how does a massive giant survive in the rapidly disappearing forest?  Costa Rica has protected parks and reserves to ensure the survival of the Big Tree and other plants as well.  It is thanks to these kind of preservations that the Big Tree has been able to thrive and live on. This was a memorable sight that few will ever be able to behold, thus it is our mission to ensure the survival, so that those who come after us may have the same opportunities to see it at its grandest.
